Braun Brew Coffee Maker, Why You Should Skip It (And what to get instead)

If you’re shopping for a home coffee maker, the Braun BrewSense or MultiServe machines might catch your eye. They’re often marketed as affordable, reliable drip brewers that look sleek and promise “Gold Cup” standards.

But after comparing them to better-built brewers, especially the Technivorm Moccamaster, I can confidently say:

Skip the Braun and get something better.

Here’s why I don’t recommend the Braun Brew Coffee Maker, and what I suggest instead.

1. It Looks Good… But Doesn’t Brew Great

The Braun BrewSense lineup has a polished look. It seems like a modern, elevated drip machine. But looks aren’t everything.

The biggest issue? Brew quality.

Despite claiming Gold Cup standards, Braun machines struggle with:

• Inconsistent water temperature (often below ideal range)

• Uneven saturation of grounds

• Flat, dull flavor, even with great beans

Compared to the Moccamaster, which brews at 196–205°F and evenly saturates the coffee bed every time, the Braun just doesn’t extract coffee the way it should.

If you care about taste, you’ll notice the difference fast.

2. Too Much Plastic, Not Built to Last

The Braun Brew machines are mostly plastic, inside and out. The carafe, lid, buttons, housing… nearly everything feels lightweight and a bit fragile.

After some use, it’s common to see:

• Leaks around the water reservoir

• Cracks in the carafe handle

• Malfunctioning hot plates or brewing delays

The Moccamaster, on the other hand, is built by hand in the Netherlands with aluminum housing, a metal brew basket, and a 5-year warranty. You feel the quality from the first time you use it.

3. Brew Time Feels Slower Than It Should

Even though Braun markets itself as efficient, the brew process often takes longer than expected—especially on the “Gold Cup” or stronger settings. That might be fine if the coffee was worth the wait… but it rarely is.

In contrast:

• It nails the water temp and flow rate automatically—no settings, no guesswork.

If you want to keep your morning routine quick and consistent, Braun isn’t your best bet.

So What Should You Get Instead?

If you’re considering the Braun Brew, I’d strongly recommend putting your money toward something that’s:

• Better built

• More consistent

• Actually designed to make great coffee

The Braun Brew Coffee Maker might seem like a decent choice at first glance. But when it comes to brewing performance, durability, and daily experience, it just doesn’t hold up.

If you’re going to invest in better coffee at home, do it right.
